Gourmet On The Go was founded in 2019 by Travis Crissman, a professional chef who received a Bachelor of Business Administration in Food Business Management from The Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, NY. While attending culinary school Travis was thinking about a unique business to start. It was only a natural fit to look for an opportunity to enhance one of his favorite past times, hiking. The idea of a gourmet freeze-dried meal company came from years of hiking and camping while in Boy Scouts. Hiking hundreds of miles and spending months hiking, Travis quickly learned that the standard typical backpacking meal is typically lacking in great flavors, textures, seasoning, and also full of artificial flavors and chemicals. When it came to determining meals and recipe development, Travis returned to his roots by utilizing family recipes such as his great Aunt Dot’s pound cake, as well as the influence of his grandparents who lived in New Orleans and loved to cook Creole food, along with his time spent cooking at the award-winning Brennan's of Houston restaurant.
