WHY FREEZE DRY?
Maintains nutrients
- Freeze dried food maintains up to 98% of the nutrients
- Dehydrated food maintains only 60% of the nutrients
- Canned foods maintain only 40% of the nutrients
Less Weight
- When freeze drying the food typically loses two-thirds of its weight from water loss. This makes the food very lightweight and perfect for hiking or camping.
Shelf Life of up to 25 years
- Removing all the moisture in the food makes it shelf stable for up to 25 years.
Taste
- Freeze drying removes all the moisture via sublimation. This allows the food to dry out without additional cooking like dehydrating. By utilizing this process, the flavor of the food is captured at its peak and preserved.
Rehydration
- Gourmet On The Go's rehydrating time is around 10-15 minutes, which is about half the time compared to other freeze dried meals that can take up to 45-60 minutes
What is Freeze Drying?
- Freeze drying is the process of removing water from food via sublimation. This is done by freezing the food to a very low temperature around -30°F, then placing the food under a high vacuum and applying gentle dry heat to take the frozen water in the food to water vapor instantly.
